New Church Floor Project
January 17th, was the last
Mass in the Mary Queen of Heaven Church. Immediately after Mass, everyone
helped carry anything that wasn't tied down over to the Gym, where Mass will be
held during the time it takes to remove the pews, remove the old tile, do
Asbestos abatement, install some new electrical work for the Choir area, install
the new tile floor, and then reinstall the pews.
Update February 1, 2010:
The floor tile has been removed by the Asbestos Abatement Contractors, and the
space is declared 'asbestos free' and safe for the next phase to begin.
The Electricians and our own volunteers from the maintenance crew are getting to
work on improvements.
Update February 8, 2010: The walls have been repainted, and the
electricians have finished installing wiring in the choir area. The new floor is
beginning to be installed. Everything is moving along nicely, and we should be
back in Church well before Easter.
Update February 14th, 2010: The new tile has been mostly installed in
front of the Altar, and on the West Side. They still have to install tiles on
the Choir side, and in the Sacristy and entrance hallways.
Update March 1st, 2010: The tile is 99% finished in the main church, but
still needs to be laid in the entrances and Sacristy. The crews are starting to
re-install the pews.
Update March 5th, 2010: Most of the pews have been re-installed. The
crews are working on the entrances, and still have the Sacristy to do.

Trivia: Do you know that it takes 5 minutes to drill a single hole,
even
with a diamond tip drill bit, in the stone of our floor. You need to
drill slowly and add water as you drill. |
